Mission in today's world
by Donal Dorr

Christians today urgently need to find a new approach to mission for our changing world. In Mission in Today's World, Donal Dorr examines mission from a number of relevant perspectives; clarifying the issues and enriching tour understanding of mission.

In Part One, he explores mission as dialogue with the religious and spiritualities that give meaning and value to other people. He also insists on the need for serious dialogue with the value systems of the Western world

Part Two explores mission as "evangelization", challenging missionaries to look at the Good News. Dorr then examines other aspects of what mission can be - inculturation, struggles for liberation of the oppressed, reconciliation, option for the poor, and sharing in the creative powers of the Spirit

Part Three, "Foreign Missionaries", Dorr turns to the differences between missionary work and development, and the question of when the foreign missionary should move on. Finally, when missionaries return home, how can they use their missionary attitudes, spirituality, and strategies to serve their home churches?

Donal Dorr is a missionary with wide experience. A theologian and animator of marginalised groups, he has served as a resource person for the Irish Missionary Union and Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. He is the author of several books, including the award-winning Spirituality and Justice and Option for the Poor: One Hundred Years of Catholic Social Teaching.
